Have a look at photo A. What do you see? Do you see it like photo B or like photo C? Or do you see it like photo A, as I do?
I look at a half full glass. I believe that if the glass is half full, the other half must necessarily be empty, otherwise the glass wouldn't be half full. I would say this is common sense. But common sense is not fashionable these days, is it? Looks like not because I've been asked many times whether I see this glass half full or half empty.
Come on, people, let's get serious. Look at photo B. Is that a half full glass? I would say that is a full whisky tumbler. Now look at photo C. If you would see something like that would you think you are a pessimist or would you think it's time you stop drinking?
I know you are all thinking "Ha! He's an idiot, he doesn't realize that this is a metaphor to determinate whether a person is optimist or pessimist." I know that. But again, let's get serious. How good a metaphor is this?? Literarilly speaking, this metaphor rates no more than... let's say... 2 or 3 millishakespeares in my book.
And let's be frank. You can't possibly judge a person's character from the answer you get from this question.
Oooohhh he sees a glass cylinder hovering in mid-air! He's a pessimist!
My opinion is that this question is just another weapon in the arsenal of prejudice, in the futile effort of humans to judge people from the most insignificant reasons like the birthdate.
How can you tell that a person's character from how a person perceives a half full glass? What if the person is not thirsty? What if he had just crossed the desert? What if the glass is full of poison or plutonium?
I have a dream that one day I will live in a world where I will not be judged by the half emptiness of a glass but by the content of my character.
How would you feel if I ask you something like: "If all the animals on the equator were capable of flattery, then would Thanksgiving and Halloween fall on the same date?" and then I would proceed to judge your character based on your answer?
