Beam me up, Scotty!

When I was 11 I was a big fan of the Star Trek series and there were two main reasons why I loved the series. The first was the racial integration of the crew of the Enterprise. As a Japanese kid living in Brazil I knew first hand what that means. Or rather, I knew exactly what the LACK of it means. Oh yeah, "I had a dream..."

And the second was the technology. I remember thinking how cool those neat communicators were and I remember sneaking into my father's desk drawer to "borrow" the case that contained a very expensive cigarette lighter that looked very much like a communicator to play Star Trek with my friends.

Now look what I have in my pocket. A mobile phone. Less than half the size of a Star Trek communicator! And it flips open like one! With a bright color screen on which I can see photos and even movies! I can play music on it too! And the most amazing: I can Google on it!! Hey, Kirk! Can you match that?
With my tiny mobile phone I could Google the Sydney Opera House website and reserve tickets for the next performance of Aida!

Ooooh, I'm glad I am not the president of a major country. It would be hard to resist the temptation of calling an airstrike on those neighbors who party with high volume manele just because I could :-D

Isn't amazing how technology has advanced in the last 30 years?
         Now I can't wait to have a transporter :-D
         Beam me up, Scotty!
